Prosecutors have charged former NBA star Dennis Rodman with domestic violence for allegedly hitting his girlfriend at a hotel last month.

L.A. City Attorney spokesman Nick Velasquez says Rodman was charged Wednesday with spousal battery, brandishing a deadly weapon, and one count of dissuading a witness. The charges were all misdemeanors.

The 46-year-old was arrested at a hotel April 30 after Gina Peterson called hotel security. Police say she suffered injuries to her arm.

Rodman spokesman Darren Prince says Rodman had had too much to drink when he got into an altercation with Peterson.

Prince adds the couple are still dating.

“We look forward to a successful resolution of this misdemeanor matter,” says Rodman’s attorney, Paul Meyer.

Charlize Theron wants to set the record straight: she’s not just a pretty face.

The 32-year-old South African beauty struggles to break barriers in the movie business by turning down roles based on her looks rather than her talent. 

“A lot of people were saying, ‘You should just hit while the iron’s hot,’” Theron tells W Magazine in the June issue. “But playing the same part over and over doesn’t leave you with any longevity. And I knew it was going to be harder for me, because of what I look like, to branch out to different kinds of roles.”

After taking on a slew of challenging but unattractive characters, the Monster star faced new criticism as people claimed she purposely took on roles that marred her good looks to gain credibility. 

“It really irks me that people think I choose these roles because if I’m not looking attractive, they will take me seriously,” she tells the magazine.  “More interesting stories come my way about what we consider real people than about glamorous, beautiful people.”

Still, the former model admits, “It’s great fun when you have three people coming to your house, and one’s doing your nails, one’s doing your hair and one’s doing your makeup. Two hours later, you look gorgeous,” she says. “But that’s not my life.”

Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson have split after nearly two years of on-and-off dating, it seems.

Pictures of the bubbly blonde actress sporting a diamond ring last week in Boston sparked rumors of an engagement, but the pair has broken up, reports People. (The ring, it turns out, was a prop for Hudson’s upcoming movie, Bride Wars.)

“It was a pretty bad breakup,” says a Wilson pal, according to the magazine. “Owen said it was a tough one. He definitely doesn’t want to dwell on it. He wants to put it behind him.”

Hudson, 29, and Wilson, 39, recently spent time together in Miami, where he was filming Marley & Me with Jennifer Aniston.

And the winner of American Idol is David Cook…at least, according to judge Simon Cowell’s prediction.

The opinionated judge told Blender magazine when asked who he thinks deserves to win: “Probably David Cook.”

“I think he’s done more to deserve it over the eleven weeks. He’s taken more risks, he’s done things with certain songs that have been more interesting. If I’m gonna base it on who has done the best performances over the live shows, David Cook deserves to win,” adds Cowell.

Last month, reports emerged that producers of American Idol were worried about sinking ratings and considering some major changes to the show.

One change Cowell insists needs to be made is getting rid of boring contestants.

“There was a classic moment last week,” Cowell told the magazine. “We had these callers phone in and I forget what the question was — ‘What do you like?’ — and they [contestants] just sat there. They couldn’t talk. It was literally un-be-liev-able.”

American Idol finalists David Cook and David Archuleta will go head to head in the finale on May 20.

CelebTV.com has confirmed that country singer Shania Twain and her husband have called it quits.

“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage,” her rep, Jason Owen, said in a statement. “This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”

The 42-year-old singer married Lange, 59, a music producer, in 1993. The couple has a 6-year-old son, Eja.

Britney Spears appears to have found a friend in Mel Gibson.

The unlikely duo are currently en route to Costa Rica on vacation together, according to The Insider.

The two were spotted leaving on a private plane early Thursday morning. Gibson is reportedly taking Spears and her father Jamie on a vacation to his home in Costa Rica, reports the website.

Gibson’s rep tells CelebTV.com, “Unfortunately, we do not have any information on this matter.”

This is not the duo’s first public appearance together. The two were spotted having dinner at a Studio City restaurant in March.

Spears was awarded extended visitation rights to her two children earlier this month, but she is not allowed to take them out of the country without special approval.

Gibson, 52, and Spears, 26, were neighbors in Malibu, Ca. 

The secret is out after Jack Black spilled the beans at the Cannes Film Festival that his Kung Fu Panda costar, Angelina Jolie, is pregnant with twins.

On the Today show Thursday, Natalie Morales says costar Dustin Hoffman revealed another tidbit—namely, that Jolie’s due date is August 19. However, Jolie reportedly said on French TV Thursday that she’s due in a few weeks.

When asked if Jolie and partner Brad Pitt would stay in France for the delivery, Jolie answered, “Possibly.”

The new arrivals will be the fifth and sixth children for the Jolie-Pitt clan. The family currently consists of Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, who turns 2 this month.

“I’m very happy,” said Jolie, 33, on Access Hollywood Wednesday. “I love being pregnant. [It makes] you feel like more like a woman than you’ve ever felt. You just feel like everything about your body is there for your baby.”

Morales reported that the parents do everything they can to keep their children aware of their individual native customs and heritages.

In the upcoming animated movie, Kung Fu Panda, Jolie plays a Tigress and says she enjoyed picking on Jack Black’s character throughout the movie.

But, she insists, Jack Black is the biggest celebrity in the Jolie-Pitt house.

“All the kids—except my youngest—have seen the movie. They love it—they are giant Jack Black fans.”

Anne Heche says she can no longer afford to pay the nearly $15,000-a-month in child and spousal support to her ex because she’s unemployed after the cancellation of her TV show, Men In Trees, according to People.

“I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further,” Heche said in court papers.

Heche claims that she has a total of $34,840.93 in her accounts, and therefore can’t pay for her six-year-old son’s private school tuition, her mortgage in Canada (where Men in Trees filmed), L.A. rent, auto and other expenses.

A judge gave Heche a temporary break, allowing her to skip her next support payment to her ex-husband, Coley Laffoon. The court also ordered the actress to provide updated income and expense information.

“Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $65,000, approximately the amount I received for one episode of Men In Trees,” she writes.

She adds in the court documents: “I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working.”

Heche was spotted at the Malibu Beach Inn over the weekend and spent $30 on appetizers, not including tip, reports TMZ.

Dolly Parton is furious that Howard Stern played manipulated recordings from her new audio book into seemingly racist and sexually graphic sound bites on his show last week.

Now, the country star is threatening to sue “The Howard Stern Show.”

The country performer released a statement Wednesday saying editing or trickery made it appear she was commenting on topics and celebrities including Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Burt Reynolds and Johnny Carson in a segment that aired May 6, Fox News reports.

“I have never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated in all my life,” Parton says in the statement. “I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me. In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth.”

“They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing. Please accept my apology for them and certainly know I had nothing to do with this.”

“If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it’s going to be over this,” she continued. “Just wanted you to know that I am completely devastated by this.”

The Stern show regularly uses altered clips from William Shatner, Oprah Winfrey and others.

Syesha Mercado said “so long” to American Idol after getting voted off the show Wednesday night.

The Florida native, 21, sang Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You,” along with “Hit Me Up” and “Fever.”

Still standing in the singing contest are David Archuleta and David Cook, who will face off in next week’s American Idol finale.
