Anne Hathaway is taking a step back from a roller-coaster of a year.
The Devil Wears Prada star opens up in a new interview about ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri’s highly publicized arrest and how she’s coping.
“As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for Get Smart,” she told W magazine in its October issue. “And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house. And then I had to go back and do more press, and I haven’t stopped since.”
Less than three months ago, Hathaway split with her Italian businessman boyfriend, who was later arrested for scamming investors by falsely claiming ties to the Vatican.
“It’s a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden,” she told the magazine. “But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, ‘Go stay at my house.’”
Even so, the 25-year-old actress admits times are tough.
“I was up in Nyack [New York] the other night visiting (Rachel Getting Married director) Jonathan [Demme] and his family,” she recalled. “They all had so much going on. And I just started to cry because I thought, I don’t have a life right now. And I haven’t for some time, and I just haven’t noticed.”
However, she admits, “I’ve been shown such kindness. Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone. I’ve realized I have a lot of people in my life who, for whatever reason, love me very much.”
On Wednesday, the actress’ ex pleaded guilty to criminal charges in a real-estate investment scheme, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Mr. Follieri, an Italian citizen, will likely be deported as a result of his guilty plea, the paper reports. He faces up to 63 months in prison under a plea agreement. Sentencing is set for Oct. 3.
