Hey guys Kelli Zink.. Joaquin Phoenix step aside. Looks like Billy Bob Thornton is the newest worst interview in town.
The Slingblade star turned musician talked to CBC radio on Wednesday with his band the Boxmasters and gave grumpy answers to almost every question.
During the sit-down Billy Bob was given several chances to let his personality shine. Roll the awkward footage!
“Billy Bob, you guys formed within the last couple of years, right?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about”
“What do you learn from Willie Nelson, Billy Bob?
“I never met him…”
“And that was true for you Billy Bob…?”
“I just liked baseball as a kid”
“Um, but you didn’t love music as a kid?
“Uhhh, I subscribed to a magazine…passed away recently.”
Ooookkkkaaayyyy.
But the icing on the cake came when the interviewer asked the actor if music was his first love. “what I’m explaining to you…you wouldn’t say that to tom petty now would you.”
Defensive much, Billy Bob?…good thing the DJ didn’t ask any Angelina questions!
Aww, did someone forget to take his anti-asshole pill that day? Poor guy, he’s a mediocre actor trying to be serious about music but can’t cut it there either…
Yeah, but do you call in sick when you’re in a bad mood? This is part of his job. Whether he’s in a bad mood or not is irrelevant. He was supposed to conduct an interview and didn’t. IT’S HIS JOB!
Yeah. If he was having an off day, he could have skipped the interview. Not acknowledging his film career is ridiculous. If he had, the host would have glossed over it and moved on to the music. It is, in fact, a job.
So this Jian guy totally breaks the agreement, BB calls him on is, Jian first lies about it, then admits there WAS an agreement while continuing to break the agreement, then posts this vid titled ‘Blow Up’.
So, where’s the ‘Blow Up’?
To those watching this with keen eyes and ears, Jian is clearly the aggressor here, as well as being quite dishonest.
Topic agreements are SOP in the celeb world, and to break them on air to provoke your guest is weak.

Just to clarify questions around ‘preconditions’: the producers and host did NOT agree to any preconditions to not mention his acting career. As Jian Ghomeshi said in the interview, he was interested in talking to Billy Bob Thornton and the band about their music as well as having them perform. That’s what we were aiming to do.

O Moron — nobody asked the interviewer “not” to talk about anything. No prior arrangements were made, and Billy Bob was lying.
He’s shown himself to be quite the liar, as well as an asshole. Besides that – you do not lay restrictions on the press. If you want publicity for your band, then you do not dictate what the press asks you. A good interviewer, as this one is – is going to ask relevant questions, and freedom of the press is an important principle that we uphold in Canada.
Another selfish, arrogant, American celebrity who believes he’s more important than he is. Newsflash! We don’t put our celebrities on pedestals here in Canada. Our celebrities are not considered ‘gods’ like in the US. We mashed potatoes r just tryin’ to work hard and live a good life – & hey some can’t afford the gravy! Most don’t make millions doing nothing very special. Your poor band!! How selfish! No probs – won’t watch your movies now anyway..too bad cuz a few were good. Disappointing!

BB basically pissed away 15% of his fanbase and earnings by shuting out Canada. Might not mean much to BB who has a second career but significant for the other bandmates who likely only make 15% of loyalties with most going to BB and others
This is actually a very small snippet to a very long and painful interview. BB was just rude and unprofessional. The interviewer was doing his best to keep the topic “music” based. I was embarrassed for BB band mates. If you see the whole interview both the interviewee and BB finally make amends and eventually get on with the interview but by then it’s way too late for any redemption on BB’s part. The interview totally turned me off even wanting to see them out of curiosity’s sake.
Billy Bob is a great guy and sticks by HIS word.
