The Country Music Association Awards Wednesday night proved that history can, in fact, repeat itself.
Carrie Underwood, co-hosted and performed, pulled off a three-peat, taking home Female Vocalist of the Year for the third time in a row.
After performing her hit “Just A Dream,” the American Idol alum teased during her acceptance speech, “Mama, it’s real hard to sing when you’re in the second row crying.”
And the third time was the charm Kenny Chesney, too. The crowd fave snagged his third consecutive (and fourth total) Entertainer of the Year Award—presented by surprise guest Shania Twain.
Underwood’s co-host Brad Paisley—who’s expecting his second baby with actress wife Kimberly Williams—got more good news at the show. He took home two awards, Male Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year, for his song “Waitin’ on a Woman.”
Rounding out the show, The Rascal Flatts were dubbed Vocal Group of the Year, and Lady Antebellum was named best New Artist of the Year.
