Jeremy Piven to Make His Mercury Poisoning Plea
It will finally be determined whether something was “fishy” about Jeremy Piven’s abrupt decision to quit his role in the Broadway play Speed-the-Plow.
According to the New York Post, Piven is scheduled to go before the grievance committee of Actor’s Equity tomorrow to defend his claims that mercury poisoning caused him to leave the production early.
Producers of Speed-the-Plow argued that Piven’s departure caused scheduling chaos for the $3.5 million production.
Jeremy will be presenting the results of a blo0d test–as well as a full accounting of his illness–before a panel of five actors and five producers.
If the grievance committee rules against Piven, he will be required to financially settle with the producers.
Jeremy Piven Too Sick For Broadway?
Jeremy Piven may play workaholic Ari Gold on Entourage but as a Broadway star, the actor seems to be slacking.
Piven, who currently stars in Broadway’s Speed-the-Plow, has missed several performances, claiming he has a mysterious illness and is too sick to perform.
According to Daily Variety, Piven said he was suffering from a “high level of mercury.”
Playwright David Mamet’s sarcastic response? “My understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer.”
Piven, who is scheduled to appear in the satire through Feb. 22, flew to L.A. Wednesday night—and left fans extremely disappointed.
After a no-show from Piven during Wednesday’s matinee, 300 audience members demanded refunds.
Sources say the Emmy Award-winning actor must not be that sick – Piven has been spotted partying ‘til the early hours after performances.
Calls to Piven’s rep were not immediately returned.
