Season 9 of American Idol is barely underway, and already producers of the FOX reality show are jumping at the chance to hire Howard Stern as Simon Cowell’s replacement.

“Idol bosses think he’d be even nastier than Simon,” a source tells the New York Post. “They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants.”

Stern, who earns $100 million a year, may not be quite ready to play AI judge just yet, according to another source.

“Howard isn’t ready to leave radio and would like to stay on at Sirius. We believe this is a ploy to make Sirius pay up and keep him on his huge contract,” the insider said of Stern’s radio deal which ends next January.

In January, Simon announced that Season 9 of Idol would be his last.

Joe Simpson, father to Jessica and Ashlee, has signed on to executive produce a new Nickelodeon series based off his daughter’s lives, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new series will be”loosely based on Simpson’s real-life experience as a psychologist raising two daughters in Texas,” the trade mag reports.

“The story in the comedy project centers on one of the daughters who begins imitating her father and giving life advice to other kids in her school.”

Joe currently serves as both Jessica and Ashlee’s manager, and previously served as the EP of ABC’s Women’s Murder Club.

No word on when the new show is scheduled to premiere.
