“American Idol” Alum Ruben Studdard to Wed This Weekend

American Idol alum Ruben Studdard and girlfriend Surata Zuri McCants are tying the knot.
Studdard, 29, and McCants, 30, took out a marriage license on Monday in Birmingham, Alabama, according to court records.
The pair reportedly met during the American Idol finale after McCants held up a sign that said “Marry me, Ruben.”
Five years later, the couple is ready to make it official and plan to get married this Saturday, his rep confirms.
Idol’s “Velvet Teddy Bear” won the second season of the reality TV show and released two albums under J Records before being dropped by the label last year.
