BOBBY AND WHITNEY’S COURT BATTLE CONTINUES
August 31, 2007 CelebTV.com was in the courtroom Friday for a hearing between Whitney Houston's and Bobby Brown's attorneys in their latest round of legal wrangling.
As previously reported by CelebTV.com, Houston filed an August 24 document in the Orange County Court of California, rejecting Brown's claim to spousal support payments and more access to their teenaged daughter.
Brown had claimed in a July court filing he was basically homeless after his divorce from Houston and that his ex-wife was denying him access to their 14-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
"I did all I could to see my daughter," Brown stated in the July documents. "I also paid approximately $10,000 for Whitney and Bobby Kris to live in a nice hotel while Whitney was going through rehab...I basically lived in my car."
Despite a 1992 prenup that excludes either party from receiving support payments, Brown went back to court recently to ask Houston for money and partial custody.
He is seeking to overturn a default judgment in the couple's divorce, under which Houston was granted sole custody of Bobbi Kristina.
In Friday's heated court debate, Brown's attorney claims that Houston had agreed privately to give her ex-husband six months to settle his personal issues but then broke that deal by lashing out in court with her August 24 filing.
Brown is seeking partial custody of Bobbi Kristina, child support and, possibly, spousal support. He was present in court today, but Houston was not.
CelebTV.com was in the courtroom on Friday when a judge said the Brown and Houston court fight boils down to an issue of credibility and that she will only resolve the he-said-she-said issue by deposing both parties at a hearing Oct. 22."
