BRIT SHOPS FOR PLAYGROUND GEAR
October 25, 2007 After fending off a hit-and-run charge on Thursday, Britney Spears hit a local store to shop for playground equipment for her two boys.
Clad in a white bustier sundress with brown cowboy boots, the singer arrived at Swings n' Things, a store that sells trampolines, swings and play sets, around noon.
An unidentified woman, possibly a court-appointed monitor, was at the wheel of Spears' white Mercedes convertible (with the roof up), while the pop stars' sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, snoozed in their car seats in back.
Spears, looking serious behind dark sunglasses with her hair dark and long, went into a small cottage-like sales building soon after emerging from the car.
"We weren't expecting her," says store manager Cory Cate, who assisted Spears. "There's a lot of celebrities that come in, but it's always a surprise."
As for Spears' mood, Cate says, "She was fine with me, but we're right off the highway, so I couldn't hear her well."
Although Britney didn't buy anything on the spot, she picked up a catalog and a business card for a future order.
"I gave her a catalog and my card," says Cate. "You design your own play sets. I'll have to go out to her house in Malibu and get measurements."
According to the store's website, prices for the custom play sets range from $795 for a basic model to over $5,000 for a set with multi-level forts, slides, ramps and rock walls.
