Britney Spears Gets More Visitation with Her Sons

May 06, 2008

Britney Spears gained more visitation with her two sons following a custody hearing on Tuesday.

The court would not divulge details of the new custody arrangement, but a source tells CelebTV.com the pop star will get “more than three” additional days a week of supervised visitation with her sons.

Following the hearing—which wrapped up before lunch—the pop star was seen heading for the courthouse elevator “with a big smile on her face,” a source tells CelebTV.com.

“We are so pleased with Britney’s progress and we are very appreciative of the court’s recognition of this progress,” Spears’ parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, said in a statement read to reporters after the hearing by court spokesman Allan Parachini.

The pop star arrived at court Tuesday morning for the status hearing looking more like a mom and less like a pop diva. The 26-year-old mother of two sported a brown polka dot dress with a sweater on top. She was accompanied by her mom, dad and attorney Blair Berk. Kevin Federline arrived shortly after his ex-wife wearing a tan suit, a source tells CelebTV.com.

After waiting in private rooms, the pair entered the courtroom. All media was asked to leave the courtroom as the case began.

Spears has been under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, since her release from UCLA Medical Center in February, and is expected to request custody of her two children.

Federline has had full custody of their two sons—Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1—since January.

The hearing was said to include discussion of a psychiatrist’s evaluation of Spears, according to sources. Commissioner Scott Gordon presided over the hearing and was expected to modify the couple’s visitation agreement based on Spears’ recent conduct.

Since Spears’ father, Jamie, took over her affairs, the pop star has been relatively invisible to photographers, only occasionally snapped shopping or having dinner with her mother, Lynne. A traffic accident last month turned out to be a minor fender bender in which no one was injured or cited.

Federline has allowed Spears limited visitation rights since February 22.

Spears’ next court date—a progress report hearing on the new custody arrangement—is scheduled for July 15.
