BRITNEY SPEARS’ FIGHTS K-FED’S LEGAL FEES, GETS NEW ATTORNEY

March 10, 2008
In a closed hearing on Monday, the court ruled that Britney Spears' business contracts will be handled by an outside entertainment lawyer, CelebTV.com has learned.

Attorney Tom Hansen was hired by Spears' conservators - who include her father Jamie Spears - to handle all contracts about the pop star's work at a rate of $15,000 a month.

Another subject under discussion at Monday's hearing was who will pay legal fees for Britney's ex, Kevin Federline.

An attorney for Spears said the singer has already spent $1 million on legal fees in her child-custody case and objects to paying another half-million dollars to Kevin Federline's lawyers.

Attorney Stacy Phillips told a Los Angeles court commissioner Monday that Federline's lawyers are only entitled to about $150,000 to $175,000. She also says Spears' ex-husband can pay his lawyers on his own.

Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan says the case is unusually complicated and all the billing is legitimate.

Court Commissioner Scott Gordon did not rule on who will have to pay K-Fed's legal bills but continued the matter. Gordon also made no change in the couple's current custody arrangement, which was modified in late February to give Spears limited visitation with her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

A hearing regarding the permanent conservatorship over Britney Spears' day-to-day life and estate was continued until July 31 at 8:30 a.m.
