BRITNEY’S LAWYER: SHE’LL DO THE RIGHT THING
October 11, 2007
In an exclusive CelebTV.com interview, Britney Spears attorney, Michael Flanagan, addresses the rumors circulating around his client.
The high profile L.A. attorney explains, "She's [Britney Spears] got a squeaky clean driving record. She's no different than you or me."
Spears has faced a myriad of legal woes in the past few months. Most recently, she was charged with two misdemeanor counts -- including one charge of hit-and-run and one count of driving without a valid California license -- stemming from an August fender bender in a Studio City parking lot, as first reported by CelebTV.com.
"I don't know exactly how it happened, but she didn't have her picture taken [for her license in California]. She had a driver's license number here in the state of California, but on her DMV record, it said it hadn't been issued yet. Why hadn't it been issued? Because she hadn't had her picture taken," clarifies Flanagan.
As for the hit-and-run, he says, "Everybody appeared to have a camera, it looked like mass confusion. What you might call a nonchalant attitude, also might be a distracted attitude. She did not know at the time that she had done any damage to the other car."
So why didn't Spears leave a note on her accident victim's car? Flanagan tells CelebTV.com, "She was told, 'That's OK Britney, we'll take care of it.' The people that follow her around...she's totally surrounded immediately, everything's taken care of."
For her part, accident victim Kim Robard-Rifkin says all she's asking for is some respect. "I'm asking simply to have my car fixed, and I'm sorry and a little respect," she tells CelebTV.com.
Flanagan's final words: "I don't think there's any axe to grind. Whatever the damages are, Britney wants to take care of it. I think an apology is appropriate in this case. Trust me, she's [Britney] is going to do the right thing."
