CELEBTV.COM EXCLUSIVE: BIG PAYOFF FOR KEVIN?
September 12, 2007 Kevin Federline may have good reason never to remarry. Court documents first obtained by CelebTV.com indicate that Britney Spears might continue to pay her ex-husband $20,000 a month for life-unless he remarries.
A court order filed Friday in L.A. Superior Court by Spears' attorney, Laura Wasser, stipulates the singer will pay Federline spousal support in "the sum of $20,000 per month...commencing on November 1, 2006, and continuing thereafter until death of either party, remarriage of Respondent [Federline] or further order of Court, whichever first occurs."
But Federline might not get a pile of money from Spears in the end. According to a previous court arrangement, he would receive $20,000 a month through November 2007, after which he would be cut off financially.
A legal source close to the case tells People magazine that might still be true. The Friday filing, the source says, "was an old document filed for housekeeping purposes... All the financial issues in this case have already been decided."
The source goes on to tell the magazine Federline's spousal support of $20,000 a month will end in November but that he can still request child support payments: "[H]e still gets child support - an amount that's already been decided. He can come back and ask for more child support, but he has not yet made that request. The only [additional] money that [his lawyer] has requested is to cover his attorney fees."
In additional documents filed September 14, Spears seeks to shut the media out of all hearings related to her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, claiming press coverage of the hearings could threaten the safety of her two children.
"Public disclosure of the information, regarding the minor children's schedule could pose a significant threat to the security of the minor children, Preston and Jayden, and unnecessarily invade the privacy rights of the parties and their minor children," the documents read.
A declaration by Laura Wasser contained within the documents singles out the paparazzi as a specific threat to the kids: "Petitioner and Respondent have been followed by news media who hope to get a photograph either of them and/or their minor children...Petitioner is a singer/performer and one of the most highly visible entertainers in the world...As a result of such attention, there has been a noticeable increase in the intrusion by professional 'paparazzi.'"
