DR. PHIL APOLOGIZES ON SHOW TO SPEARS
January 21, 2008 Dr. Phil McGraw spoke out Monday about the controversy surrounding his involvement in Britney Spears' hospitalization.
"Was it helpful to the situation? Regrettably, no," said McGraw on his TV show. "It was not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do."
The doc does have regrets, and discussed the public statement he made shortly after Spears was released from the hospital.
"Have I wrestled with the decision that I made a statement even though I don't feel like it added any information to what was already known? Yes, I have wrestled with that," McGraw admitted.
"If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't say a word," he said. "I wouldn't make a statement to anybody about anything."
Although McGraw would change how he tried to help the Spears family, he does not regret getting involved.
"My intentions were good and I wish it had helped or had some positive effect but clearly it did not," McGraw said. "Let me be clear, I certainly do not apologize for trying to help this family or this girl in trouble."
