NEIL PATRICK HARRIS REACTS TO BRITNEY SPEARS’ GUEST ROLE
March 11, 2008
"How I Met Your Mother" actor Neil Patrick Harris wonders which side of Britney Spears he'll see when the pop star makes a guest appearance on his sitcom this month.
CelebTV.com has confirmed that Spears will guest-star on the CBS show, playing a dorky receptionist in a doctor's office who tries to win the affections of Ted [Josh Radnor], a patient.
Harris, another cast member, jokes with Entertainment Tonight about Spears' upcoming acting stint.
"I was shocked that Madame Spears was willing to come and do some acting," Harris, 34, tells ET.
"This is a very interesting role. It is very not like her at all in real life in any of her previous chapters."
Spears' turn as as awkward assistant will be a stretch for the singer, Harris predicts. "[I]t will be very unlike any Britney we have seen before, and we have seen a lot of Britney recently."
Laughing, Harris wonders if Spears will turn out to be cool and collected on the set, in
contrast to her wild public image.
"What if she shows up on set and she is absolutely, totally normal and that whole thing has been a big ruse?" he wonders.
Miming Britney smoking, Harris adds, "She is smoking a cigarette and [says], 'Oh yes, it is all a big bit. I have a master plan.'"
A rep for "How I Met Your Mother" tells CelebTV.com the episode with Britney Spears will air on March 24.
