Part 2: Tom Cruise Honored On Oprah Winfrey
May 05, 2008
Tom Cruise sat down with Oprah Winfrey for the second part of a 25th anniversary celebration honoring the actor’s breakout role in the famed movie Risky Business.
So what makes the 45-year-old actor nervous? He admitted, “A few things.”
Winfrey asked if making movies made him nervous and Cruise responded: “I get excited, I’m nervous beforehand. There are a few places I know I belong. And on a movie set is one of them.”
The talk show host prepared a series of pre-taped interviews with Cruise’s former costars including Stephen Spielberg, Renee Zellweger, Dustin Hoffman and many more.
Zellweger said about her Jerry Mcguire costar, “His laugh is heartfelt, and he is a totally blessed individual.”
Hoffman shed some light about the infamous fart scene in Rainman. According to the actors, the scene was not planned, but happened spontaneously. Hoffman farted and would not let Cruise out of the phone booth. Cruise laughed at the memory and noted how much he learned from Hoffman.
Also interviewed were best pals Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and David and Victoria Beckham.
Cruise confesses that the Smiths are true friends: “I can and do call them anytime...at 3am, whenever I need them.”
The Beckhams thanked Cruise for always being there for them, and for being in their lives.
For his part, Cruise thanked his fans for their years of support, telling the audience: “I’m surprised how much I’ve accomplished...and it’s because of you.”
Prior to Friday’s interview with Winfrey at his Telluride home, the two last sat down together in May 2005, after Cruise memorably jumped on Winfrey’s couch and declared his love for then-girlfriend, and now wife, Katie Holmes.
Cruise told Winfrey: “You were egging me on.” Asked if he would do it again, Cruise answered, “I don’t know if I would’ve, knowing what I know now.”
