SPEARS’ HIT-AND-RUN COURT DOCUMENTS
November 26, 2007 CelebTV.com is the first to obtain court documents showing that Britney Spears' hit-and-run case has been postponed until Jan. 2, following a hearing in a Van Nuys courtroom.
On Monday, Spears' attorney, Michael J. Flanagan, requested a "reasonable continuance" in the case, which stems from an Aug. 6 incident in which Spears bumped another car in a parking lot.
Hit-and-run charges resulting from the fender bender were first reported by CelebTV.com.
The L.A. City Attorney reportedly wants Spears sentenced to two years' probation for driving without a valid California driver's license. That could lead to jail time for the singer, if she commits another driving violation.
Michael J. Flanagan told The New York Post he believes Spears is being treated too harshly by the court. "She is being singled out because of who she is, just like Paris Hilton was," Flanagan said. "My client has obtained a valid license and she shouldn't be placed on probation. In California, once someone obtains a valid license, the charges are usually reduced or completely dismissed."
Spears obtained a valid California license on Oct. 2.
A call to Flanagan from CelebTV.com was not immediately returned.
