  Leno is a class act comic,fresh,witty-a ’smart” guy’s comic with a sophisticated way of getting laughs by those with a reasonably good if not better IQ. The demographic for Conan’s type is zit faced, cola drinkers, who even though they’re classified by law as adults haven’t quite reached puberty yet, inbred look, WalMart shoppers that pirate satellite tv. They likely failed kindergarten twice before going on to Grade 1, don’t look like the man they call Dad and think Taco Bell is fine dining.

  Neither Conan or Jay should be at the helm of the premiere late night show. The Tonight Show should’ve been the home of David Letterman and we all know it (Johnny wanted it that way, but not NBC). NBC fouled it all up 17 years ago and have been paying the price ever since. You reap what you sew.

  I stopped watching this “trainwreck” after about one minute in. This is another example of NBC programming insanity. I suspect Conan will be replaced by Michael Vick and eventually the final choice weill be Keith Olbermann.
  Letterman’s laughter is much louder than Conan’s screaming on the tourist tram.

  there is nothing witty about Jay Leno, nice guy, but i never once found him amusing in any format, excluding the side view of his face, hilarious!   they are two different styles. Leno was more down to Earth, affable middle class guy next door. Even though he wasn’t middle class with all those cars, that’s what he projected. Conan is more smart, sophisticated, debonair and intellectual. I think both styles work.

  I used love Conan and watch him off and on for several years. But once you seen several of Conan Shows, you seen them all.

  Most of the time Conan’s mannerisms seem forced, while Leno’s jokes were not too funny, he was funny in his casual demeanor.

  I have to disagree. Leno throws out simple, but funny jokes, while Conan’s are more witty and spontaneous, taking into account everything that has happened during the whole interview. The guy is very smart, and is able to pull out witty comments from out of nowhere.

  I always liked Leno and Conan for different reasons. Leno is your traditional, seasoned stand-up who knows how and when to put the button on the punch line and was a very good interviewer. Conan is more into slapstick, pushing the envelope and has a very self deprecating sense of humor which is ALSO great. He’s an okay interviewer, but I think that was actually one area Craig Ferguson had him beat in Late Night. I think Conan is going to do a great job and I wish him the best of luck.

The grammatical errors found in my comments were non intentional as I didn’t deliberately go out of my way to insert those particular mistakes, unlike the oaf I was responding to. You can’t honestly think its acceptable to use colloquialisms in text form can you? It just seems so utterly insane to me to implement words in written text that arise from laziness of oral speech.   I used to watch Conan regularly, then got pretty tired of his spasmastic standup routine. He’s gotta learn to chill out. He uses his body (hand movements, dancing, spinning) wayyy too much for for laughs because he lacks genuinely original and funny material.

  i guess people dunno the styles of how either of the host does it.
  example, Jay Leno’s style is like, he is best at interviews, his jokes are light, funny, non offensive, and makes you smile.
  Conan’s style is more of laughing at yourself, being a kid again, and just having fun. and you know what, it works!
  Every host has a style, leads to people’s taste in comedy. For me its Conan cos i like that style of laughter, taking it light and stuff

  I wish it used to be the way it was. Leno at 11:30 and then Conan at 12:30 instead of Leno then Fallon and Conan then Fallon. Leno was really funny. He’s really good at the monologue and his monologue jokes cracked me up so much. But I still do like Conan more though. He can act like an adult at one point and then turn to a kid the next. Fallon is a joke. I never even laughed at one of his monologue jokes yet.

  Conan is great at adlib actually it was his first show and he was obviously nervous. Give the man some time the third show was much more funny and i think it will only continue to improve as he gets back into his groove. Keep in mind hes been outta work for 3 months now give him a break. I like Jay as well, but to say he was great at adlib is a joke if anything it was the main thing he was lacking he couldnt adlib at all hence why his interviews were always so dull.

  The best thing about Jay’s show was his set was awesome. It was the most lively and vibrant set with the bright lights and good natured exchanged with kevin. Ferguson, Fallon, Letterman, kimmel and now o’brien ALL have dark and greyish sets. They should lighten up.

  I really miss Conan’s old stage background from “Late Night”. This new one he has is almost as bad as Jimmy Falen’s background.

  But apart from that, to the viewer, I don’t think much has changed besides time slots. Jay and Conan are still on stage, doing what they do best.

  Leno: at first I hated him, but afting watching it for a while, his show was actually pretty funny.
  Conan : his first show wasn’t the best, but the second was absolutely hilarious. Late Night was my favourite talk show, he’s gunna do good at 11:35.
  Letterman: Never gave letterman a chance because that douchebag on the piano pisses me off too much.
  Kimmel: Kimmel’s show is waaay underated….Guillermo is hilarious..my 2nd favourite after Conando.

  Back when Conan O’Brien started out in the mid-90s, I thought he was AWFUL. I remember watching Late Night when I was 15 thinking “this guy’s show will be cancelled in a year or two”.

  Okay, so I was wrong. Conan has definitely improved. I do still prefer Letterman (although I wouldn’t be at all sad if Paul Schaffer dropped dead today), but Conan’s improved so much over time.

  I wouldn’t say that Leno came from nothing – he grew up in Andover, Mass., which is not exactly a poor town. I don’t know his exact circumstances there, but there weren’t too many truly poor people in Andover. It also had one of the best public high schools in the country, so even though he supposedly got mediocre grades, he was well educated. On that basis alone, he had a pretty good shot at life.

  Different time slot & do the same thing is suicide, although, many of the addicted late night viewers will tune in, the new audience who live in that TV time zone r a new demographic. U have to play the tunes the audience wants to hear or they switch channels. NBC & the rest of them know this: they need the Nelson to get advertisers. Conan needs to adapt. The college kids dont get back to the dorm until Late Night & like different humor than those who r out of school, married & settled down.

  I think this is pretty obvious when you think about all the hype before the show started.

  Most of the Tonight Show plus Late Night fans were propably watching it. Not to mention those who saw it just out of curiosity.

  I think the best time to check statistics would be when the dust has settled and Coco’s honeymoon with his new show is over.

  yes well it was expected ……..most people really never had a true chance at catching Conans late show because all of them were asleep by 12:35am and yes the first day was a curiosity factor …as for day 6 Letterman had Howard Stern on a trick he always uses when hes in trouble …..Im a huge Conan fan and yes he has changed to some point but thats because he is on his second week….give him sometime to return back to the real silly nerdy Conan that we all love

  As for Conan I noticed he smiles and gets somewhat nervous or shy when he first appears when the curtain opens ….He is too nice and instead of having this attitude of well thank you for passing the show to me Mr. Lenno And NBC….he should feel he earned it and really deserves it …. NBC should shut up and let Conan do his thing…..if they keep on restricting Conans show I suggest he leaves and goes to FOX where they will leave the door open to anything.. just like with Married With Children
