DJ AM and Travis Barker are expected to recover after being critically injured in a Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four people Friday night.
The medical director of the burn hospital where former Blink-182 drummer and DJ AM are being treated says both men are expected to make full recoveries.
Dr. Fred Mullins said Sunday morning that both men are being treated for second- and third-degree burns at a Georgia hospital. Mullins says recovery from such burns can take as long as a year but notes the men had no other injuries.
Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was burned on his hands and part of his head. The doctor says both men are still in critical but stable condition.
Barker and DJ AM perform together under the name TRVSDJ-AM and had played a free concert in Columbia’s college neighborhood Friday night.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reported seeing sparks. The plane went off a runway and crashed on a nearby road, she said.
Both Barker and DJ AM were admitted to a burn center in August, Ga., about 75 miles from the crash scene.
Two other passengers, including Barker’s assistant, and the pilot and co-pilot died in the crash.
After Blink-182, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) . He starred in the MTV reality series Meet the Barkers with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, his wife at the time. The couple have two children together—son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2. Moakler rushed to her ex-husband’s side after learning of the crash, People magazine reported, adding that the children were not immediately told about the crash.
Goldstein was once engaged to Nicole Richie.
