VICTORIA BECKHAM DESIGNS DENIM FOR MEN
March 11, 2008
Victoria Beckham might prefer her own jeans super-skinny, but when it comes to men's denim, she thinks bigger is better.
"I think guys should wear jeans big and baggy, with a big pair of boots or flip-flops-exactly how you see David when he's out in his jeans and T-shirt," she tells the trade magazine DNR, referring to her soccer star husband, David Beckham.
"Do not pull them up tight and have your bulge showing. Let it hang!"
The former Spice Girl is putting her menswear design theory into practice by expanding her dvb line to include men's jeans, which will hit stores in August.
Posh insists that she didn't just slap her name on any old jeans, but was involved in every step of the design process.
"I'm a complete control freak and I want everything to be perfect. I'm not doing a Britney Spears and just putting my name on something and saying, 'Sell this perfume.'
"This is a real passion of mine. People think all I do is go shopping like a miserable cow, but, in actual fact, I work bloody hard."
Conveniently, Victoria Beckham's husband was happy to serve as her fit model, and tried on her men's jeans prototypes as she cranked them out.
"He says they are the best-fitting jeans he's ever had," boasts Posh, whose men's jeans will retail for $220 to $285.
The busy designer, singer and mother of three says being in the fashion business is, in the end, the career she really, really wants: "It's a great big ladder and I'm right at the bottom, but this is what I want to be doing 20 years from now."
