After months of having their rocky relationship in the spotlight, Jon and Kate Gosselin announce on Monday night’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 that their 10-year marriage is officially kaput.
Jon and Kate make their announcement to the surprise of no one. Kate and I have decided to separate. Yes we have decided to separate, this is not good for our kids.
After a whole lot of speculation, Jon and Kate Gosselin confirmed Monday night they’re getting a divorce. Earlier in the day People magazine reported that divorce papers had already been filed in Pennsylvania.
On Monday night’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 special, Jon and Kate gave separate interviews telling viewers what they already knew.
Kate and I have decided to separate.
Jon seemed to be looking forward to moving forward. I’m 32 years old, I’m excited. I was too passive I let her rule the roost. I never stood up to her.
While Kate seemed a little les sure. I don’t want to be alone, I don’t want to do this alone. I know it’s going to be hard for the kids. It’s not what I wanted for them.
Both parents said they’d keep their Pennsylvania home and take turns living there. They also said the show would go on.
Later Monday night, Kate released a statement, "Over the course of this weekend, Jon's activities have left me no choice but to file legal procedures in order to protect myself and our children…As always, my first priority remains our children."
Not to be outdone, Jon then released a statement of his own, “Our kids are still my number one priority... My job is being the best, most supportive and loving father that I can be to my kids, and not being married to Kate doesn’t change that... I am of course deeply saddened that we are divorcing."
