The ongoing adoption struggle for Madonna and 3-year-old Mercy James has come to a halt as the pop-star left Malawi early Sunday morning empty handed.
Friday, a Malawian judge rejected Madge’s bid to adopt Mercy from the African country, to which the Material Girl filed an appeal.
“We are ready with our grounds challenging [High Court judge] Chombo’s ruling,” Madonna’s Malawian lawyer Alan Chinula told People.
Madonna had spent the week in Malawi to work on her charity, and spend time with Mercy. Madonna’s children, Lourdes, Rocco and David all were able to spend time with their would-be new sis as well.
Even Madonna’s ex hubby, Guy Ritchie, has offered his support in the adoption plans saying of his former flame, “Madonna is a fantastic and loving mother who cares deeply about her own children and children who may need additional help and support.”
“I fully supported Madonna in her decision to apply for this adoption, and I am saddened that her application has been rejected. She is motivated only by being a caring parent who seeks to share some of the advantages and opportunities that her life has given her. This time it did not work out, but there will be other opportunities, and I wish her well in them. She is a great mum.”
