Mariah Carey is clearing up the fuzziness on her somewhat bizarre acceptance speech from Tuesday night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala.
A seemingly tipsy Mariah accepted the award for breakthrough actress for her role in Precious, and had the audience–and the internet–buzzing about her buzz!
Carey, 40, told reporters at Wednesday night’s People’s Choice Awards she had “splashes of champagne” to thank for her awkward mic moment.
“We’d been sitting there, celebrating this whole time and having little splashes, and I hadn’t eaten,” Carey said of her and Precious director Lee Daniels.
“We were celebrating the movie and all the exciting stuff going on. There’s a time for celebration and a time for not – but really technically, it’s a party atmosphere. We had splashes of champagne. I love Lee, but he’s a bad influence.”
Mariah seemed to have learned her lesson as she calmly accepted the award for favorite R&B Artist during last night’s awards.
