Just before his death, Michael Jackson was prepping for a 50-date concert series, set to kick off July 13 at London’s O2 arena.
Now, a deal is currently underway to turn the 80 hours of Michael’s rehearsal footage into a movie, Variety reports.
Sony Pictures is in talks with AEG Entertainment to purchase the footage–an acquisition that will cost them $50 million according to the trade paper.
The film would include several different videos that Jackson intended on using as programming during his concerts. Sources also tell Variety one video includes an alternate version of “Thriller.”
High School Musical director, Kenny Ortega, is expected to sign on as the director for the film. Ortega had been helping Michael design and choreograph several aspects of his “This is It” shows.
AEG is also set to sell the rights to Jackson’s memorial concert, taking place on August 29.
