Olympic stars Michael Phelps, Dara Torres and Shawn Johnson dazzled over 9,000 Chicago fans on Wednesday for an outdoor taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
American Idol alum David Cook even dropped by for a surprise performance.
But the real star of the show was Debbie Phelps.
“She was maybe more of a celeb than anyone else there!” says one observer of Michael Phelps’ lovable mom.
“People were shouting her name. Oprah said the one person she most wanted to talk to of anyone was Debbie Phelps.”
Michael Phelps, who nabbed eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, joined about 150 other U.S. Olympians for the taping.
The swimmer’s biggest fan, mom Debbie, was a constant fixture at the Beijing games – winning her own following in the process.
When asked what she plans to do with her newfound fame, the middle school principal told Winfrey she plans to go back to work as usual.
Oprah was decked out in a blue pantsuit with a shiny red belt for the taping of the Olympic special, her season premiere.
The show, which also featured gymnast Nastia Liukin and basketball star Kobe Bryant, is set to air Monday.
