The latest scandal to rock Madonna’s cradle accuses the singer of trying to adopt a baby from Malawi pending one outrageous condition—that the little girl be returned to her biological family in four years.
“There is no truth to this rumor,” her rep tells CelebTV.com exclusively. “It’s an old one - wasn’t true then or now. Madonna is starting her tour in a week.”
According to reports, Madonna desperately wanted to adopt 2-year-old Mercy James from the same country where her son, David, 2, was adopted from earlier this year.
The 49-year-old singer attempted to adopt the little girl last year, but her family has said they are “not interested.”
In new reports, the family is reportedly saying they will only go ahead with the deal if Mercy is returned to them when she is 6.
“When Mercy is no longer a baby we want her back. I do not want the money they said they’d give me,” her grandmother told the Daily Mirror.
Madonna has three other children—Lourdes, 11, with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon; Rocco, 8, with husband Guy Ritchie and adopted son David Banda. almost 3.
