FOR RUBEN STUDDARD, ALONG WITH THE RECORD DEALS AND MONEY CAME THE need for someone to DEAL WITH IT ALL. THAT FELL TO RUBEN’S GODFATHER AND MANAGER RONALD EDWARDS. BUT WHILE EDWARDS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING RUBEN, IT SEEMS HE WAS ALSO HELPING HIMSELF TO HIS MONEY.
IN THE SUMMER OF 2005, STUDDARD FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST EDWARDS SAYING HE HAD FORGED DOCUMENTS TO GIVE HIMSELF power of attorney, AND USED STUDDARD’S CREDIT CARDS TO RACK UP $105,000 in bills. EDWARDS ALSO WROTE $150,000 IN CHECKS TO HIMSLF AND STOLE $22,000 IN CHECKS THAT HE DEPOSITED INTO HIS OWN ACCOUNT.
Studdard ALSO sued Edwards and his marketing company, in February OF 2005 CLAIMING EDWARDS misused more than $246,000 of THE SINGER’S money.
