Oscar-winning movie director Danny Boyle is spreading his award-season cheer to some of the stars of his Best Picture winner, which swept this year’s Academy Awards.
The Slumgdog Millionare director told the Daily Mail that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali and their families will be moved to apartments worth over $28,000 in the upcoming months.
Ismail played the youngest Salim, while Rubina depicted a young Latika in the film.
Despite the film grossing at least $100 million, pictures recently emerged of the children living in conditions similar to that of their characters in the slums of Mumbai.
Boyle told the Mail, “These are bricks and mortar flats. They will have electricity, running water and good sanitation. They will still be close to their friends and extended family.Their community is very important to them, and they don’t want to move too far away from them.”
The children ventured out of India for their first time to attend the Academy Awards.
Since winning eight Oscars, the Slumdog kids have paid visits to Disney World and the Santa Monice Pier.

Those kids are the true stars of that show, they deserve to be educated and sufficiently rewarded for their roles and performances, not just temporarily but long term investments should be made in their lives. Their stories are part of the reality in which we live and must make a concerted effort to do more than just realize it, we must help those who cannot help themselves at such a tender age. God bless all of you, even the ones who didn’t get a chance.
