In his new autobiography, Open, tennis champ Andre Agassi admits he used crystal meth and then lied about it to tennis authorities after he failed a drug test.
The tennis bad boy was married to Brooke Shields at the time.
Tennis superstar Andre Agassi drops a bombshell shot in his new autobiography, “open,” admitting he used to do crystal meth and lied about it to tennis authorities.
According to an excerpt published in the times of London, Agassi describes how he felt after snorting the powder for the first time in 1997, the same year he married Brooke Shields. He says after he received a call that he had tested positive for drugs, he had to do something. He writes,
"My name, my career, everything is now on the line. Whatever i've achieved, whatever i've worked for, might soon mean nothing. Days later i sit in a hard-backed chair, a legal pad in my lap, and write a letter to the atp. It's filled with lies interwoven with bits of truth."
The 8 time grand slam champion explains in the letter how he failed his test by saying that he accidentally drank from a friends spiked soda. He writes, “ i ask for understanding and leniency and hastily sign it: sincerely.
"i feel ashamed, of course. He writes, i promise myself that this lie is the end of it."
Agassi hit a major career slump until ’99 when he made a dramatic comeback as the # 1 ranked player in the world “open” hits shelves
