After watching the Mariah Carey movie Precious, which he executive produced with Oprah Winfrey, actor/comedian Tyler Perry writes on his website about the horrific physical and sexual abuse he suffered as a child.
Tyler Perry normally cracks up his fans as his comic character Madea…but the funnyman has never been more serious as he reveals the horrible abuse he suffered as a child.
The comedian posted a sobering letter on his website after watching the Mariah Carey movie he executive produced with Oprah Winfrey, “precious.”
“can we talk about the abuse in your household, you know what I’m talking about.”
Perry writes, “I'm tired of holding this in. I don't know what to do with it anymore, so, I've decided to give some of it away.”
He went on to describe the horrific abuse he suffered… including his father beating him senseless with a vacuum cleaner cord for reading books and taking cookies…his grandmother giving him a bath in amonia to try to get rid of “germs”, and being molested by a man from his church.
But he says, seeing “precious” helped him realize he was a survivor. He writes, “it hit me so hard, i sat there in tears realizing that somehow, by the grace of god, I made it through.”
