Uma Thurman swore off marriage after her bitter divorce from actor Ethan Hawke.
But four years later, The Kill Bill actress admits that wearing an 8-carat engagement ring feels pretty good.
In her first interview since her engagement to Swiss multimillionaire Arpad “Arki” Busson, Thurman tells the U.K.’s Sunday Times Style magazine that she’s happy to go back on her word.
“I’m going to have to retract my statement of never,” she said. Thurman had notoriously vowed she wouldn’t walk down the aisle again, following two failed marriages (to Gary Oldman and Ethan Hawke).
She now has an engagement ring so big, said the paper, that she can barely get through the sleeve of her coat.
Thurman adds, “I’ll have to eat my words — what a surprise.”
The actress doesn’t pay much attention to the fact she’ll have three marriages under her belt before the age of 40, and she does embrace her age.
“I look my age, and I don’t mind … Being in my late thirties is fine with me. Maybe when 40 hits, the penny will drop and you just hate life. But so far, so good,” she told the paper.
Thurman added that as a child, she was no beauty queen. “I didn’t feel awkward, I was awkward. It’s such a cliche, but it’s a truism that tall, gangly women who end up all right later in life are always ugly children.
“I was funny-looking. I mean, look at my hands. Imagine having these hands at 12! By the time I was 13, I was easily 5 foot 10 inches. Can you imagine? That’s a mess,” Thurman exclaimed.
As for now, said the actress, “personally, things are wonderful.”
